This week our track of the week is by the amazing The Phantom Project! Check it out below. We had a chat with Colin from the band to dive more into what the band have been working on.
What made you pick ‘Fallen Times’ as the track to release?
Fallen Times is a song that means a lot to the band. It’s something we’ve really started connecting to the time that we’ve lost due to the pandemic and the time that we’ve got a new appreciation for now that things are getting back to normal. We’ve had a few songs in our back pocket that are ready to go but we felt like Fallen Times is the one that would make the biggest statement about us, our sound and our energy!
Who are the band’s biggest influences?
That’s one of the best things about the band really, we all come from very different musical spaces:
Colin and jamie are influenced a lot by bands like oasis, Kasabian and Kings of Leon. With more indie vibes but still very guitar and drums driven music.
Alfonso our lead guitarist is really into classic rock and American 80s vibes. Bands like AC/DC, Guns n Roses, Hendrix and Stevie Rae Vaughn.
Lee, our bassist, is into loads of really heavy prog stuff like Karnivool, Toska and Periphery. Which doesn’t seem like it would gel well but it has its real moments where all the very rhythmic aspects shine through.
How did you find working as a band during lockdown?
Really rough, of course we did a lot of individual practice and writing but we get the best out of each other when we’re all in the room. Whenever lockdown restrictions allowed we’d always try and find somewhere that we could practice and catch up safely. Eventually when things started to ease off we managed to get a private room that had loads of space for us to be safe and jam which is where we’ve hopefully settled for the foreseeable!
What do you have planned over the coming months?
We have a couple shows dotted around Glasgow and Edinburgh in September and November and something a little more chilled out in October in Kirkcaldy. We recently done a really small and intimate gig in Midnight Breakfast Club that we’d love to do again before the year ends too. And who knows there might even be another single that we can drop after Fallen Times in the next 4-5 months as well!
What up and coming artists are you listening to?
Well we rehearse right across from Swim School so we’ve become big fans of them over the last couple months and we’re glad they’re making moves. We respect The Snuts a lot as well and hope the best for them! I think we’re at a point where the scene is starting to rebuild itself so we’re very much at the point of looking out for new bands to get behind.
