Two Skies are a brand new duo hailing from the North West of England. They have just released their debut single ‘Another Way’ and if it is anything to go by this duo are going to be something special.
‘Another Way’ is the perfect indie – pop banger! It tells a story within the lyrics of a relationship. It is filled with catchy melodies, lovely synths and a catchy chorus. What more could you want? Here’s what the duo had to say about their journey:
Who are Two Skies?
We are Cal and Brad… we’ve been best mates for as long as i can remember really.. I think we met originally playing on the xbox or something when we were younger through another mate and both love music so why not start a band together. We’ve both always gone to gigs together when we were young and just always one day thought about the band and it just happened naturally really
Who are your biggest influences?
It’s a funny question for us this, because me (Cal) and Brad have such a different range of influencers, I follow him on spotify and it does make me laugh some of the stuff he listens to compared to me but that brings such a perfect balance to the band as overall we listen to so much different music. I did also just text Brad to ask who his influences were and he said his mum so… ta Gill x – Musically tho I listen to really poppy stuff (Dayglow, 1975, Seagirls, Clairo, Wallows) I just love that really super modern pop production which just sounds mint wherever you play it, i’m a sucker for a good vocal hook too. Where Brad listens to a lot of Beatles, Idles, Nirvana, Foals.. so yeah, you can see the range of our writing haha! But it works a treat so who cares.
What are you looking forward to on the journey as Two Skies?
We’re fresh and it’s exciting, I think we just want for people to really love our songs and if we can turn around one day and go and sell out a tour and have people singing back our songs then that’s our dream really, we’ve always said that. I think for the short term goal it’s just releasing music and seeing how people take to it, that excites us a new band who no one really knows.
You’ve just released your debut single ‘Another Way’, why did you pick this song to release first?
We had 3 songs ready to go when we were deciding what song to release first, and we actually had a track called ‘Loser’ which we had planned a video for and everything was going to revolve around that track. We then wrote ‘Another Way’ and Brad just texted me saying that it’s got to be this as the first single, and yeah it just happened. It seems the most complete and interesting song for us at the moment. It shows off all our influences, our performance and just the whole vibe of the band. No intro, straight in with vocals with a new track and new band is darring and we love it.
What was the inspiration/ writing process behind writing ‘Another Way’?
Normally all our tracks start with a chord progression from either Me or Brad which we just record on our phone and then send it to each other and just get the vibe of it. Brad sent me the chords for Another Way and I just instantly fell in love with them. We then bang them into the computer and start adding some elements to the song. We literally found the original demo for Another Way yesterday and cant believe how different it sounds. It was super straight and almost very driven. We then just decided to chuck a shuffle hi hat and tambourine onto it, slowed it down and next minute it was the perfect blend of 80’s and modern pop. I’m pretty sure it was written, recorded and mixed in like 2 days.
In regards to the inspiration of the song and lyrics. I’ve been writing all the songs based on literal stories from my life really and this one is about my first real long term relationship and basically realising I messed it up and knowing she sees me in a different way. The first verse might hit home with a lot of people about just missing that person in their life.
What other up and coming artists are you listening to at the moment?
The Lottery Winners are a massive one atm, Thom from the band is such a great lyricist and just really conveys what he’s trying to say. There is so much mint new music at the moment it’s really exciting for the scenes around the north west. Dave Monks on intro merseyside has been great with us so far and it’s sooo good hearing the new songs popping out from everywhere. There’s a band called Police Car Collective who are crazy good too!
What’s next for Two Skies?
Lots and lots of new music, we can’t stress that enough. We’re not the most instagram savvy band, so what better way to counter act that then just keep releasing new music as much as we can.
